十二銅板法

古代ローマで作られた、人類最初の成文法

12枚の銅板に記録されたので12銅板法と呼ばれる。

前４５１年頃、１０人の委員の起草で、ローマ最古の包括的な法典、十二表法が成文化
されます（十二枚の銅板に刻んだことから付いた名前）。それまで法律は貴族が独占し
ていて、平民には知らされていませんでした。そのため、平民は何時どんな理由で貴族
に処罰されるか解らなかったのです。ちなみにこの十二表法の内容ですが、ローマ人ら
が長い間この法を暗記するのが習慣だったため、記録に残っていて大体のことは解って
います。
