　雷鳴とどろく荒野に突如あらわれた三人の魔女。魔女たちは凱旋中のマクベスと友人バンクォウに二人の運命を暗示する。その一つ「コーダーの城主になる」という予言が現実となったとき、マクベスの心は野心のとりことなる。マクベス夫人は夫をそそのかす。マクベスはダンカン王暗殺を皮切りにつぎつぎと悪事を重ね、友人バンクォウをも殺害する。だが、心の平静は失われる。マクベス夫人もおどろおどろした幻覚の虜となる。それにもめげず、マクベスは苛烈な闘いへと突き進む。緊迫感にみちた見事な悲劇。http://www.gutenberg21.co.jp/macbeth.htm
