ハリウッド

ハリウッド (英語:Hollywood) は、アメリカ合衆国カリフォルニア州 ロサンゼルス市にある地区。映画産業の中心地。アメリカ映画界のことを指してハリウッドということもある。聖林とも書く。

1903年、当時農村だったハリウッドは市制を施行するが、1910年にロサンゼルス市と合併した。

Hollywood was founded in 1857. Accounts of the name coming from imported English holly bushes are said to be incorrect. The name actually came about, the story goes, because the wife of Harvey Henderson Wilcox, a real-estate developer in the late 1880s, was travelling on a train when she met a woman whose home was called "Hollywood."
