Marcus Porcius Cato Uticencis (95 BC-46 BC), known as Cato the younger to distinguish him from his great-grandfather Cato the Elder, was a Roman politician and statesman, follower of the Stoic philosophy. ・・・前52年元老院の擁護のためにポンペイウスを単独のコンスルにする案に賛成し，以後ポンペイウスとカエサルの抗争ではつねにポンペイウスに味方する。前46年カエサルがタプソスの戦いでポンペイウスを破りアフリカのウティカに迫ったときその地で自殺した。自殺したウティカの地にちなんでウティケンシスとも呼ばれ，生涯を通じて共和政の伝統を固守し元老院を擁護した。
