ボーヴェのヴァンサン、Vincent of Beauvais

The Dominican monk Vincent of Beauvais (ca 1190 - 1264?) wrote the main encyclopeda that was used in the middle ages. The exact dates of his birth and death are unknown and not much detail has surfaced concerning his career.-[[wikipedia.en>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_of_Beauvais]]

Speculum Doctrinale ("Mirror of Doctrine'), 

　フランスの学者。スコラ学派に通じたドミニコ修道会に入る。ルイ９世の宮廷教師を務める。18世紀以前最大の百科知識の大要『大鏡』（全80巻）を著す。その中に『自然の鏡』が含まれる。『自然の鏡(Speculum Naturale)』は『大鏡(Speculum Majus)』の第３部を成す。全33巻は植物・動物の記述に当てられ、最後の巻に動物と解剖学と生理学が収められている。古典ギリシア、アラビア資料と、キリスト・神学上の資料を融合させたもの。
